  A SUPER FRUIT: GRANADILLA FRUIT:

If you are looking for a delicious and nutritious fruit that can boost your health and well-being, you

might want to try granadilla. Granadilla is a type of passion fruit that has a yellow, hard and slippery shell that contains black seeds surrounded by a transparent pulp. The pulp is the edible part of the fruit and is very aromatic and juicy. Granadilla has a sweet and tangy flavor that can refresh your palate and quench your thirst.

Granadilla is native to the Andes Mountains, mainly Peru, but also grows in other countries of South America, such as Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, and Brazil. It can also be found in some tropical regions of Africa, Australia, and Papua New Guinea.

Granadilla is usually harvested between June and November, when the fruit is ripe and ready to eat.

Granadilla plants are evergreen climbers that can reach up to 5 m (16 ft) in length. They have simple, lobed leaves and showy, complex flowers with a ring of colorful petals and a crown of filaments. They are pollinated by bees, hummingbirds, and bats, and produce fruits that contain numerous black seeds surrounded by a gelatinous aril.

Granadilla is not only tasty, but also very beneficial

for your health. It is rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber, which can help you prevent and treat various diseases and conditions.

    HEALTH BENEFITS OF GRANADILLA FRUIT:

It has a low glycemic index, which means it does not cause blood sugar levels to spike. This makes it ideal for diabetics, as it can help them regulate their glucose levels and avoid complications.

Granadilla can also prevent cravings and overeating, as it can keep you full and satisfied for longer.

It boosts the immune system, as it is rich in vitamins A, C, E, and K, as well as antioxidants. These nutrients can help you fight off infections, inflammation, and oxidative stress, which can damage your cells and organs.

Granadilla can also protect you from colds, flu, and other respiratory problems, as it can soothe your throat and lungs.

It reduces anxiety and stress, as it contains

magnesium, which acts as a natural relaxant. Magnesium can help you calm your nerves and muscles, and improve your mood and sleep quality.

Granadilla can also stimulate the production of serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter that regulates your emotions and happiness.

It increases blood cell count, as it provides iron, potassium, and B vitamins, which are essential for the production of red and white blood cells. These cells are responsible for carrying oxygen and nutrients to your tissues and organs, and for defending your body from foreign invaders. Granadilla can also prevent anemia, which is a condition that occurs when you have low levels of hemoglobin or red blood cells.

It improves digestion and prevents constipation, as it has a high fiber content. Fiber can help you regulate your bowel movements and eliminate waste and toxins from your body.

Fiber can also prevent colon cancer, as it can reduce the exposure of your intestinal lining to harmful substances. Granadilla can also balance your gut flora, as it contains probiotics, which are beneficial bacteria that can improve your digestion and immunity.

It supports heart health, as it lowers blood pressure and cholesterol levels, thanks to its potassium and phytosterols. Potassium can help you relax your blood vessels and reduce the strain on your heart.

Phytosterols can help you block the absorption of

cholesterol from your food and lower your LDL (bad) cholesterol levels. Granadilla can also prevent atherosclerosis, which is a condition that occurs when plaque builds up in your arteries and narrows them.

Granadilla can be eaten fresh by cracking open the shell and sucking out the pulp. You can also scoop out the pulp with a spoon and enjoy it as a snack or dessert.

              USES OF GRANADILLA FRUIT:

You can also use granadilla to make juices, jams, desserts, and salads. You can mix granadilla with other fruits, such as pineapple, mango, banana, or kiwi, to create a tropical fruit salad. You can also blend granadilla with yogurt, milk, or ice cream, to make a smoothie or a frozen treat. You can also cook granadilla with sugar and water, to make a syrup or a jam that you can spread on bread, pancakes, or waffles.

Granadilla is a sweet and tangy superfruit that can

offer you many health benefits and uses. It is a great source of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber, which can help you improve your immunity, mood, digestion, and heart health.

             GRANADILLA FRUIT JAM:

INGREDIENTS:

500 grams granadilla pulp

500 grams sugar

1 sachet of pectin powder (or 2 teaspoons)

2 tablespoons lemon juice

                 HERE IS THE RECIPE:

Cut the granadillas in half and scoop out the pulp with a spoon. Transfer the pulp to a blender or food processor and pulse a few times to break up the seeds.

In a large pot, combine the granadilla pulp, sugar, pectin powder, and lemon juice.

Stir well and bring to a boil over high heat, stirring occasionally.

Once the mixture reaches a rolling boil, lower the heat and simmer for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the jam reaches your desired consistency.

You can test the jam by placing a small amount on a cold plate and seeing if it sets after a few minutes.

Remove the jam from the heat and let it cool

slightly. Then, transfer the jam to sterilized jars and seal them tightly. Store the jam in a cool and dark place, or in the refrigerator once opened.
